Eddie Arcaro Accepts Queens Plate Mount Will Ride Either Canadiana or Lively Action for E. P. Taylor WOODBINE PARK, Toronto, Ont. May 26. — E. P. Taylor, vice-president of the Ontario Jockey Club, announced at Woodbine Park this afternoon that he had completed arrangements with jockey Eddie Arcaro to pilot one of his candidates, Canadiana or Lively Action, in the coming Queens Plate renewal. Arcaro. one of the greatest reinsmen of all time and who has ridden in every important stake in the United States, has been wanting to ride in the Woodbine classic for some time and when offered a mount by Taylor, he accepted. Arcaros appearance under silks on Plate day will certainly add a lot of interest to the Dominions most coveted turf prize. Canadiana, who disappointed in last Saturdays Plate Trial, will most likely be seen in a public workout at Woodbine Park either Thursday or Friday. Trainer Gordon McCann may ask permission from the stewards to work out his charge in the afternoon between races. Taylor also added that Canadiana came out of her Plate Trial engagement in fine fettle and that she is bucking and kicking about her stabling quarters. He is of the opinion the daughter of Chop Chop and Iribelle just didnt run her race last Saturday. Canadiana, unanimously voted "Canadas horse of the year" because of her outstanding performances in her juvenile year, which included nine victories in 11 starts and triumphs in all the important events of her age division, earned a total of 0,-762. That amount was greater than any other Canadian-bred of her age had previously won. All her scores were achieved easily and her victories in the Coronation Stakes at Woodbine and the Cup and Saucer at Long Branch proved nothing more than gallops for the Taylor filly. In her three races in the States she scored twice, setting a track record at Randall Park in the ,000 added Miss Cleveland Stakes and winning an overnight event at Pimlico. Canadiana, after training sensationally during the early spring months, made her first start of the current season in the Trial Plate at Woodbine on Saturday. The Taylor miss was installed a 1 to 10 choice and she failed to finish in the money. She didnt display her usual dash and while there was some excuse for her poor showing because Jose Vina, her rider, last a stirrup in the homestretch run and, before he regained his footing, it was too late to prevent the filly from making a stronger bid.
