Royal Bay Gem Arrives For Peabody Engagement Combest Coming Here to Ride Texas-Owned Colt on Saturday HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 26.— Royal Bay Gem rather monopolized the limelight at Hawthorne today insofar as activities regarding next Saturdays 0,000 Peabody Memorial Stakes were concerned. Eugene Constantin, Jr.s, black colt, accompanied by two stablemates, all under the personal supervision of trainer Clyde Troutt, who accompanied them, arrived at this westside track shortly before the afternoons racing program began. Jockey James Combest, who had ridden the son of Royal Bay Gem n. — Bayadere in all his races this year, will be here to ride him in the mile and one-eighth holiday feature on the week end. Riding engagements have been made for a number of the probable starters in the Peabody. Trainer Harry Trotsek expects to start both of the Hasty House Farm nominees, Platan and Torch of War. Johnnie Adams will have the mount on one of them. Kenneth Church, who rode Mrs. O. S. Demings Thaxter when that fellow trounced eight of his Peabody rivals in the Peabody Prep, will ride the colt from Cyn-thiana, Ky., again in the big race. Alfred Popara has been engaged for T. M. Daniels Ace Destroyer, John Heckmann for Dix-ianas Berseem, who will probably have Spy Defense as a running mate. W. M. Cook will ride H. L. Nathensons Guy Guy. The latter, and Red Top Stables New Stream, both of which are among the rather less distinguished candidates, were the only Peabody eligibles to engage in trials this morning. Royal Bay Gem was accompanied to Chicago by the three-year-old, Romantic Roman, and the two-year-old colt, We Wonder. Practically all possibility of a filly trying to oppose the colts in the Peabody vanished today when Mrs. Herbert Herffs Mimi Mine was entered for Wednesdays Betty Derr Purse for three-year-old fillies. Mimi Mine and Mrs. Ada L. Rices Cerise Reine were the only fillies among the 29 original nominees and the latter is not here. "
