Valadium has beaten most of those she faces tomorrow, though under more favorable weight conditions. The skill and patience of Ben Jones brought Hill Gail back to the races a fit horse this spring. If he was a bit short for the Phoenix Handicap it need hardly be said he needed that alibi, as he was beaten the narrowest of margins by a good five-year-old to whom he was giving 10 pounds while carrying 128 himself. Douglas Dodson is scheduled to ride Hill Gail.v Among the six other fillies whom Miami Mine meets in the ,500 Marica Purse is one who beat her at their last meeting here on May 27. This one is Arab Actress, owned by Mrs. H. J. Damm of Indianapolis. The race, the Betty Derr Purse, was Mimi Mines first start of the year since winning four of her six outings last season, including Hawthornes Durazna Stakes. Making her first start since finishing third to Bubbley and Cerise Reine in the Kentucky Oaks on May 1, and her third of the current year, Arab Actress won the Betty Derr Purse by seven lengths over Mimi Mine. The later Memphis-owned filly of Mrs. Herbert Herff indicated here Monday that she is ready for her best effort when she stepped five furlongs in near track record time— : 59%. Opposing Mimi Mine and Arab Actress for the Marcia Purse are Fairway Farms Good Call, D. W. Landys Fiesta Way, R. P. OBriens Pussy Cat, Fred W.
