1 ~i Over 500 in Attendance At Annual Belmont Ball WalterSalmon# Jr.#Makes Highest Bid for Bronze of One Count BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 16. — Last week ends annual Belmont Ball, which this year was held for the benefit of the New York Heart Association, was voted the best in the series of bruTant social events now held each year on the eve of the Belmont Stakes in the Turf and Field Club mansion at Belmont Park. More than 500 persons, comprising the elite of the social, financial and diplomatic worlds, danced to Meyer Davis music, their revelry producing several thousand dollars for the Heart Fund. In addition to the contributions made by the diners, a bronze of Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords One Count, last years winner of the Belmont Stakes, was auctioned by Donald Grant, who was assisted by the columnist Red Smith, who as the toastmaster of the affair. The bronze was contributed by its noted sculptress, June Harrah. The lucky man that made the highest bid was Walter J. Salmon, Jr. A racing plate from the eventual winner of this years Belmont was bid in by Spencer J. Drayton and Charles E. Mather n. purchased a beautiful necklace that was auctioned as a donation. Among those noted at tables in the ancient Manice mansion ,and under the canopy on the lawn were Ambassador Win-throp W. Aldrich, Mr. and Mrs. F_P. Alexandre, Miss Elizabeth C.
