Canadiana Works Fast Seven Furlongs in 1:27% Prepping for Aqueducts Gazelle; Tahirian King Goes Same Distance BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 16. — E. P. Taylors Canadiana, winner of the historic Queens Plate at Woodbine last out, was given her first serious prep for her engagement in the 5,000 Gazelle Stakes this morning. The pride of Canada stepped seven furlongs in 1:27% in handy style on the main track at Belmont Park - and was not fully extended. The Gazelle will be renewed at a mile and a sixteenth on June 24 at Aqueduct, and Canadiana is expected to have to pit her speed and stamina against such good sophomore fillies as Mrs. Ben P. Whitakers Oaks winner, Grecian Queen, and Green-tree Stables highly promising Hows Tricks. Howell E. Jacksons Ballerina, who was a rather lucky winner over Hows Tricks in that fillys first outing of the year, turned in a clever trial for the Gazelle this morning, stepping six furlongs in 1:13% under the watchful eye of Ed Christmas. She worked in company with Commuter and was much the best of the two. Ben F. Whitakers Tahitian King, who will probably be the favorite in next Mondays 0,000 Shevlin Stakes, also worked seven furlongs at Belmont Park this morning. Going alone, the Polynesian colt got the distance in 1:26%, handily, after fractions of :Z6Vs, :48, and 1:13%. Harborvale Stables Dark Step, who is eligible to the seven-furlong Carter Handicap on June 27, worked impressively on the slower training track at Belmont Park this morning. The Piping Rock gelding was timed in 1:13%, handily, after getting the fractions in :47%, 1:00. It was one of the fastest moves seen on the training track in quite a spell and may prove costly to clocker Willie Fitzpatrick.
