► " Sophomore Filly Stars in Artful Bubbley and Cerise Reine Head Nominations Already In for Arlington Fixture ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, HI., June 16.— Bubbley and Cerise Reine, two of the seasons top three-year-old fillies, head a growing and impressive list of nominees for the 5,000 added Artful Stakes to be decided at Arlington Park a week from tomorrow. The Artful is the second of 16 stakes, carrying a total of 90,000 in added money, to be offered during Arlingtons 36-day meeting, which gets under way Monday. The 5,000 Primer Stakes, five and one-half furlongs event for two-year-olds, will be the opening day feature, and has drawn many promising juveniles. Although nominations for the Artful closed Saturday, racing secretary Frank E. "Jimmy" Kilroe" will not announce the final number of the nominations until tomorrow, to allow for those coming by late mail. Bubbley and Cerise Reine have highlighted filly racing this spring by their track-to-track duels, with the latter gaining a slight edge, two victories to one. Victorious in Delaware Oaks Cerise Reine, chestnut Requested lass, owned by Mrs. Ada L. Rice, first accounted for Keenelands Ashland Stakes, winning over Calumet Farms Bubbley and another Artful nominee, Sweet Patootie. She later scored in the Delaware Oaks without much resistance from the Calumet campaigner who finished far out of contention. Bubbley, by Bull Lea — Blue Delight, defeated Cerise Reine last March in the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs. She had been named for the Kentucky Derby, but took sick for a short time and trainer Ben Jones declared her out of the race. Other sophomore f illiesjcapable of giving the aforementioned pair some trouble are: Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffers Sweet Patootie, Louis Lee Haggin n.s pair of Sally Catbird and Stone Cold, Mrs. H. J. Damms Arab Actress, Mrs. Wallace Gilroys Jasmine Stakes winner Emardee, and McDer-Mott and Wellmans Task Fleet, conqueror of Bubbley in an overnight purse at Keene-land. Nominations for the 0,000 added Equipoise Mile, scheduled for Saturday, June 27, are coming in rapidly and indications are that a star-studded field of three-year-olds and older horses will go postward. ThUs far this handicap, named after the great thoroughbred who established Arlingtons standing 1:34% mile record 21 years ago, has lured such performers as Sub Fleet, Oil Capitol, Jampol, Royal Mustang, Squared Away and many more.
