WERWOLF, slow to gain best stnde, worked his way forward to attain a slight lead entering the stretch and in a long drive gamely withstood STRIKER PILOT. The latter, under light restraint while on the outside during the early running, continued in the middle of the track for the drive and closed with good courage. SUNNY FOX, a sharp factor from the beginning, held on determinedly during the late stages in a good effort. MAD MAID reached near even terms for the lead at the furlong marker, but faltered slightly when punished. AXEL MUNTHE alternated in pressing and setting the early pace, weakened during the stretch run and came back lame. VOCABULARY quit HYPERPLAY never threatened. MARA MOO raced wide. OLD SALT raced in nearest pursuit of the winner from immediately after the start, was unable to seriously endanger the latter during the late stages, but easily prevailed over the others. APPLIANCE was unable to improve his position when hard hustled through the stretch. PARTNERS-ALL lacked the necessary rally. CAPTAIN BYRNE tired. VAIN VIXEN never was dangerous. SWORDS POINT was permitted to settle into best stride, responded readily to take command when briskly shaken and gradually drew clear. RENO SAM, never far back, bore over sharply interfering with MONTADET when going to the front after completing the final hedge, then continued on gamely to prevail over the latter. RENO SAM was disqualified for fouling and placed last. BEN TALLY-HO saved ground during most of the journey, but failed to sufficiently respond when set down for the final test MONTADET, forced to take up sharply when impeded by RENO SAM at the final obstacle, was unable to recover. MIGHTY MO had a rough trip. FULTON tired. PALAJA was outrun. ESCARGOT bobbled and fell at the eleventh Jump. SPIKE SEVEN stumbled and unseated his rider at the fifth fence. PORTERHOUSE, a sharp factor from the beginning, came to the inside of TURN-TO to reach the lead nearing the furlong marker, and came out slightly interfering with the latter during the stretch run, then under brisk urging lasted to gain the decision. PORTERHOUSE was disqualified for foul tactics and placed last TURN-TO quickly sprinted into a clear lead, then gave way to PORTERHOUSE after being straightened for the stretch run, and was compelled to take up when impeded during the drive by the latter, and apparently thereafter was retarded on several other occasions when struck -by the whip of PORTERHOUSES rider. DICTAR raced GUARDIAN II. into defeat to assume command during the run down the backstretch, gave way to the winner nearing the furlong marker, but held on willingly enough to easily best the others. GUARDIAN II., much used early, had little left when the real test came. FLY WHEEL moved up menacingly on the outside of NATIVE DANCER at the three-furlong marker, then faltered. MR.
