Decision on New Jersey Harness Application to Be Made Soon TRENTON, N. J., Aug. 15. Hugh L. Mehorter, chairman of the New Jersey State Racing Commission, said today that a decision would be made soon on the application by the Jersey Raceway Association for a permit to construct a harness racing plant in Springfield township. There was a four-hour public hearing in the Burlington County courthouse yesterday and the testimony now is being studied by Mehorter and his associates on the commission. Backers of the proposal to have harness racing with pari-mutuel wagering in Springfield township urged that it be permitted on the November general election ballot. Church groups and others opposing the track said they were against it on moral and economic grounds.
