American Derby Big Event of Week Jamie K. Among Ten in Johns Joy Ace Destroyer, Sir Mango, Platan See Action Today In Mile Washington Event WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., Aug. 15. Down for decision as the feature race here Monday is a one mile event named in honor of Johns Joy, who was one of our best sprinters of the past 10 years. It will bring out a field of 10, including a coupling to represent Clarence Ortleib, of Fort Thomas, Ky., whose horses recently arrived here. Owner Ortleib is seemingly a friend of the disciples of Hippocrates, as he has Doctor Heitz and Doctor McCabe to race in his silks. That pair will, however, be pitted against such as Jamie K., Ace Destroyer and Sir Mango and would not appear to have much chance. Jamie K. will try once again to take his first purse in the Chicago sector, and he will again have Arcaro up. Ace Destroyer, who defeated the Spring Hill Farm colt in the Sheridan Handicap here last Saturday, will be ridden by Ken Church, and Sir Mango, that steady-going three-year-old owned by Harry Eads, will have Dave Erb. Sir Mango faded near the end of the Sheridan and finished eighth. Platan, from Hasty House Farm, who was third, will be ridden by Johnnie Adams. Spotted Ace Destroyer Six in Sheridan Jamie K. spotted Ace Destroyer six i pounds in the Sheridan, which was at one mile. They will have equal packages in the Johns Joy. Ace Destroyers victory was by ; three lengths, which entitles him to pick up some lead. Both racers will carry 122 pounds, and Precious Stone will do likewise. Precious. Stone picks up 11 pounds from the Sheridan, in which he finished last. In his previous start in which he carried 107, Precious Stone, owned by H. C. Fruehauf, defeated Ace Destroyer and Platan at one mile at Arlington Park. Sir Mango, if we throw out his defeat in the Sheridan, has the best record of any of the contestants on Chicago tracks this season. He will carry 116 pounds, but was second to Native Dancer in the Arlington Classic and second to Van Crosby in that ones fast jaunt in the Warren Wright. Platan was third in the Warren Wright. Others in the Johns Joy line-up, aside from the Ortleib entry, are Poo Bah, probably the best of the Illinois-breds in training; Devilment, of Dixiana, and Thaxter, who has displayed but little since winning his first start at the Lincoln Fields meeting. Poo Bah, owned by Louis Schlosser, was second to Eddie Sue in a grass race here last week. Devilment won two races at Arlington in lesser company. Jamie K. was favored in the Sheridan and may be the favorite again. Last Saturdays spin was on a muddy track. His prior effort when he was fifth in the Classic was on a heavy strip. Arcaro seems to be of the v opinion that the colt is not any too partial to the "off" going. A fast track may prevail Monday, and if so, Jamie K. may live up to advance notices.
