New Awards to FurtherChasing On Amateur Courses Revealed NEW YORK, N. Y., Aug. 15. In continuance of a policy to further the sport of steeplechasing on amateur race courses, Amory L. Haskell, president of the United Hunts Racing Association, today announced a new series of awards to be made to the owners of leading horses on the hunt racing circuit. Acting on the recommendation of the awards committee, consisting of S. Bryce Wing, Frederick F. Alexandre, Russell M. Arundel and Chris Wood, Jr., the sportsman said the association would disburse ,600 annually among the leading timber, brush and hurdle horses which race on the eastern and midwestern hunt racing circuits. To be scored on a point system, the leader in each division will receive a trophy and ,000; second, 00; third, 00 and fourth, 00. In the event of a tie, the sums are to be compiled and divided. To be tallied by Wood, field director of the UHRA, the points will be awarded as follows: Three for a winning race, two for placing and one point for running third. In sporting races where no monetary award is made to the owner, all points are to be doubled. Only races under sanction from the hunts committee of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association, or appointed state racing bodies, will be tallied. The awards will be made at the conclusion of the autumn hunt racing agenda in November. Points earned by hunt racing campaigners on the past spring circuit will be retroactive and included in the final count.
