Apprentice Thomas Ciinch Astride His First Winner RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, Aug. 15. Apprentice Thomas Clinch rode the first winner of his brief career yesterday when he won astride Paul Youkilis Elaine Ruth in the sixth -race. The seventeen-year-old is under contract to Doug Davis, Jr. and started riding this spring while in Kentucky. The story of Clinch is quite a dramatic one for at the age of four the boy was stricken with polio. He was in a hospital for four years before recovering fully from the disease. He has worked for Davis for the past three seasons and the Kentucky conditioner is quite high on the boys future prospe.cts. He looks extremely good on a horse and in his winning effort rated Elaine Ruth to perfection, staying clear of any trouble in the large field.
