Rices Pretty Plunger puts her unbeaten record on the line Wednesday afternoon when she heads a field of a dozen two-year-old fillies in the eighteenth running of the 0,000 added Polly Drummond Stakes. With victories in the Fashion and Rancocas Stakes in her two public appearances, the fleet daughter of Hill Prince shares highweight of 122 pounds with Brandywine Stables Rosedale Stakes winner, Catchpenny, and will have a stable companion in Special Style. Should the overnight field for the five-furlong affair remain intact, the Polly Drummond will gross 5,475, with the winners share amounting to 1,750. Hartack to Ride Favorite Pitted against the aforementioned trio are the following: Helen W. Kelloggs Dark Charger, John H. Clarks Mabe Cee, Larry S. MacPhails Rose Carillon, Justin Funk-housers Cubed Ice, Stella S. Colts Snobbish, Twin Oaks Stables Roman Princess, Mrs. Ruth Sherwoods Pannies Rose, Erlen Stables Miss Erlen and Mrs. Ben F. Whit-akers Little Midget. The latter is the lone maiden in the field. Pretty Plunger, who will be ridden by Willie Hartack, has done everything asked of her, both in training and in actual com-; petition. She made her debut in the Fashion and scored impressively, then proved just as prof icient in winning Garden States Rancocas with five panels in :58% to send her earnings to 5,150. Catchpenny, following her Rosedale score, has been unable to return to the winners circle but cannot be entirely overlooked. She had a .rough trip in the Rancocas, then was about five lengths behind Mabe Cee in a local effort. Trainer Buddy Raines has brought jockey P. J. Bailey from NewYork to handle the Revoked filly in the Polly Drummond. As mentioned in the preceding paragraph, Mabe Cee was a winner in her lone local appearance, beating Snobbish a length and a half, with Catchpenny in fifth position. Mabe Cee was third behind Pretty Plunger in the Fwancocas and is the most frequent winner in the field with four victories to her credit in nine starts. She will have the saddle services of Walter Blum. Dark Charger, who will be handled by Darrell Madden, is an invader from New England and boasts a record of three scores in four starts. A daughter of Depth Charge, whose offspring are noted for their speed, Dark Charger was timed in :59 flat, in her most recent outing. Of the others, Rose Carillon and Cubed Ice shape up as the most likely surprises. • Rose Carillon, a daughter of Princequillp, was a galloping winner in Maryland in her lone outing, while Cubed Ice was second in the Singing Tower at Gulfstream and the Bowie Breeders in Maryland. |
