► May Cancel Royal Ascot Meet Due to Rail Strike Special to Daily Racing Form LONDON, England, June 7 Reuters. — Next weeks Royal Ascot meeting:, one of the social highlights of the English turf season, will be canceled if the British national railway strike continues until next Saturday, June 11, stewards of The Jockey Club announced here today. They did so with the approval of Queen Elizabeth who normally attends the colorful four-day meeting, driving up to the course each day in state. The meeting is scheduled to begin next Tuesday, June 14, and lasts until Friday, June 17. The Jockey Club, arbiters of English racing, said that in case of postponement the Royal meeting probably will be held at a later date and the Ascot Heath fixture for Saturday, June 18 would be transferred to Newbury, Berkshire track. A further announcement will be made as soon as possible.
