Maximum of Five Starters Seen for Belmont Stakes Only Nashua, Jabneh, Flying Fury Are Definite for Saturday Race BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y.. June 7. — Persistent research among the owners and trainers of Belmont Stakes eligibles, and the jockey agents who would like to have mounts in Saturdays 00,000 classic event for three-year-olds at a mile and one-half, indicates that the field will number not more than five, and probably will have four starters, possibly three. Though Hilton "Rabbit" Dabson has not been heard from specifically since he vanned his homebred winner of the Swift and Peter Pan back to New Jersey, it is believed that he will bring Nances Lad back for the Belmont. Howard "Hash" Weinsteins Mr. Al L. continues to be a possibility, with no rider engaged as yet. If Nances Lad starts, John Choquette, his regular rider will be in the saddle." The three definite candidates are Belair Studs eastern champion, Nashua, Laudy Lawrences Jabneh and Cain Hoy Stables Flying Fury. Nashua galloped at Aqueduct this morn- Continued on Page Three No More Than Five To Go in Belmont Only Nashua, Jabneh and Flying Fury Certain to Start in Saturday Race Continued from Page One ing, breaking out in his usual lather despite the chilly atmosphere. The big colt, who looks bigger every day despite his arduous campaign and his tendency to perspire on the slightest provocation, will, of course, be ridden by Eddie Arcaro. Hedley Woodhouse will ride Jabneh, who made his debut to racing at Hialeah last winter and showed remarkable improvement this spring. The son of Bimelech from the brilliant Bellesouer may be a thoroughly good colt and has the confidence of his trainer, G. P. "Maje" Odom, who expects him to give a good account of himself, though he has no way of knowing how he will fare against Nashua, never having met that sort of colt. Moreno to Ride Flying Fury Flying Fury, a disappointment in the Kentucky Derby and in the Peter Pan, will be ridden by Hank Moreno. If the son of Nasrullah can do anything well, he can run in the stretch, but he doesnt always seem willing to do that. No definite word has been received concerning Clifford Mooers Traffic Judge, who beat Nances Lad in the Withers Mile, but was soundly trounced by Nashua in the Preakness. It is understood that trainer Woody Stephens wants no part of Nashua and is not interested too much in second money on the ground that a hard race at a mile and one-half might knock the colt out of rich engagements that he could win in the near future. Owner Mooers, however, is reported eager to run in the classic. Mr. A. L. has litterally nothing to lose in "shooting at the moon." Thus far this year, he has redeemed little or none of the promise he showed on occasion last year..
