Former Globetrotter Stars Plan to Organize Own Team MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 7 UP.— Reece "Goose" Tatum and Marquis Haynes, former stars of the Harlem. Globetrotters, today announced plans to organize a new All-Negro basketball team. Publicity director Matty Brescia of Memphis announced the merger following a long-distance telephone call from the two Negro cage stars, who are vacationing in Las Vegas, Nev. - Haynes quit the Globetrotters two years ago and barnstormed with his own club, while Tatum split with the Globetrotters at the end of last season. J/vescia said the new team will be known as the "Harlem Magicians," and Haynes and Tatum will serve as co-owners and co-captains. "Goose and Marquis are lining up some of the best Negro court talent in the nation," Brescia said, "and we expect to play in some of the best stadiums and key cities in our tour." Breicia said the team will use "every comedy trick, routine and format which Haynes and Tatum made famous during their years with the Trotters." "After all," he said, "Tatum and Haynes literally originated all of these great basketball programs." Brescia saidTatum and Haynes will come here late next month to map final plans for the coming basketball season.
