PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 7. — What was a deserted .stable area just 10 days ago is now thriving in activity as horses continue to arrive in a steady stream for the 50-day summer meeting that will -be inaugurated here Saturday. The total of thoroughbreds stood at 781 this mid-afternoon, leaving slightly less than 400 still due to report by Saturday. The period beginning Monday morning and ending this afternoon brought the arrival of 123 horses. The larger stables checking in were those trained by Arthur H. Bowen, nine horses; Tom Harraway, 10; A. Bertrando, 10; Joe Piarulli, 11, and John L. McKnight, seven. There was a coinciding quickening of tempo on the training track this morning with dockers tabbing 99 horses in recordable moves over the fast strip. William Gi. Helis, Jr.s Helioscope was closely observed as he made his first appearance on the track since his gallant Suburban triumph over High Gun. Eugene Constantin, Jr.s* Bushers Beam and G. A. Tashmans Influence turned in sharp speed trials in preparation for the 5,000-added Oceanport Handicap at six furlongs on opening day. Bushers Beam evenly held his speed for a crack six-furlong move in 1:12%, handily. He went the first quarter in :23 and half mile in :46%. Influence, who has been campaigning .steadily, was given a three furlong tune-up, a quick :34% in company with Gay Marvin.
