Hartack Aboard Five Winners in Succession New Mark at Delaware Includes Dead Heat on Falcula in Feature DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 7. — Willie Hartack, runner-up to Willie Shoemaker in the national jockey race for the past two seasons, and currently making his most determined effort to supplant the West Coast sensation, took a stride in the right diretcion this afternoon when he booted to victory his first five mounts on Dalaware Parks program. The Charles Town, W. Va., youngster completed the quintet when he finished in a dead-heat astride Four Way Ranchs Falcula in the featured Pan Zareta Purse, getting his charge on even terms with Mrs. Edward Laskers Loquacious right at the wire. With Falcula and Loquacious, the latter ridden by Joe Culmone, on even terms at the finish, there was a gap of two and one-half lengths back to Rokeby Stables Dark Music, who finished third. In the featured mile and a sixteenth, which was witnessed by a crowd of 12,147, the top team completed the distance in 1:45%. Falcula paid .00, while Loquacious, a Delaware Oaks Hopeful, returned .00. Hartack lost little time in starting his streak, taking the opener with George C. Rosenbergers Celeriter, a .20 favorite. The 22-year-old Hartack sat out the second race, which saw Mrs. William G. Christmas Bogie Man complete a 7.80 Daily Double. Starting with Frank I. Wrights Sakr-El-Bahr, the .60 favorite in the third race, Willie rode the next four winners. The others were Jouett Shouses Admiral John, .00 choice in the fourth, Thomas E. Gil-mans Butterbur, who paid .60 in the fifth, then Falcula. One of the most ardent Hartack rooters in the crowd this afternoon was the boys father, William, Sr., who was making his initial visit to Delaware Park. The elder Hartack manages his sons farm near Charjes Town and seldom gets to the races. The five winners for Hartack marked the first time in the history of Delaware Park that a rider has wone more than four races in a single afternoon. Such a riding feat was nothing new for Hartack, for just this spring at Laurel he accepted seven mounts on a single program and reached the winners circle on six occasions, finishing third with his other mount. , Hartack, who is under contract to Mrs. Ada L. Rice, will ride throughout this meeting, then will proceed to Chicago with the string, which is conditioned by Thomas J. Kelly.
