DALLAS PURSES INCREASED Julius Reeder Announces Attractive Program for Fair Grounds. Minimum Purse to Be 00, With Daily Handicap of ,000 or ,200 Special Features of ,500 Added. DALLAS, Texas, April 2. On his arrival from Oaklawn Park, where he served in an official capacity, general manager Julius G. Reeder of Fair Park, Dallas, announced the purse and stakes to be run at the twenty-one day meeting to be held here beginning April 25 and running through May 18. Mr. Reeder stated the minimum purse will be 00, an increase over the minimum offered horsemen during the fall meeting of 1934. In addition to the increase in purses offered, there will be an overnight handicap daily, which will carry a ,000 or ,200 prize. This is another increase over the purses offered last year and, with such liberal purses offered, there is no doubt that the best horses quartered here will be conditioned to accept engagements in these overnight races. Mr. Reeder expects the condition books to be delivered from the printer the latter part of the week and by Saturday should be in the hands of horsemen stabled here and at Arlington Downs. The opening day feature, titled the State Fair of Texas Handicap, is a ,500 added race for three-year-olds and over, and will be contested over the George course, slightly less than five furlongs. This distance is one of the most popular among Dallasites as well as horsemen, and it should draw the best sprinters on the grounds. The greater Dallas Handicap, scheduled for Saturday, April 27, is for three-year-olds and over, at one mile, starting from the chute. The best route performers are expected to accept conditions for the ,500 added purse. The third feature to be offered will be the : Fort Worth Handicap, another ,500 added prize, at a mile, for three-year-olds and over It will be offered Saturday, May 4. The Texas Centennial Handicap is down for decision on Saturday, May 11, and also for three-year-olds and over, at seven-eighths of a mile. It also carries an added value of ,500. The final stake will be offered on the closing day, May 18, with sprinters asked to go six furlongs for the ,500 added purse. This stake has been named the Fair Park Handicap and there is no doubt the best sprinters ready for racing will accept the conditions for the last stake of the season. While announcing the purses and stakes, Reeder added: "We are filled to capacity with applications for stabling quarters and it is impossible for me to take care of all the horsemen wishing to race with us; however, we will do all we can to take care of as many horses as possible, but it looks like we will .be forced to turn down requests from hundreds of applicants. "We are certain the horsemen will be pleased with our purse distribution, inasmuch as our allowance and higher value claiming races will have a distribution of 00 and 00 purses, while the lower grade claiming races will be 00 and 00." The minimum claiming price on the shorter races will be ,000, while the route performers will find the minimum to be 5800, the lowest claiming price in the book.
