j i j j 1 BAY MEADOWS NOTES j 0 Donna Jean, winner of the first race Friday, is owned by Frank Cody, who rode Scarborough to victory in the first California Derby many years ago. General manager Wm. P. Kyne has announced that the meeting at Riverside Park, Kansas City, will get under way May 18, which is the scheduled closing date at Tan-foran. The Riverside Park meeting will run for twenty-five or more days. It was stated Saturday that U. S. Webb, attorney-general, had ruled that bets being telegraphed to the track were illegal. He quoted a section of the law which reads, "Wagering on horse races outside the in-closure where such races shall have been licensed by the board shall be and remain illegal." The management of Bay Meadows has been doing an average of about ,000 daily business on such wagers since the meeting began and the news came as a surprise to general manager Wm. P. Kyne and A. E. Littler, San Francisco head of the telegraph company which handles such wagers.
