WORDEN LEADER AT CRETE Chicagoans Horses Win Nine Races and ,600 in Prizes. Riding of Basil James Highlight of Lincoln Fields Meeting Mucho Gusto Equine Star. Competing with the rainiest September weather in recent years in Illinois, Lincoln Fields, the beautiful Crete course of the American Turf Association, fought a losing fight financially for the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club. From the standpoint of the sport itself, however, Lincoln Fields racing was on a par with other years and up to the standard of Chicago tracks. Opening September 9 and winding up on October 10, the Crete organization distributed 92,415 during twenty-eight days for a daily average of 371.97. Five of the 224 races ran were stake affairs with Mucho Gusto the star of the meeting. The greatly improved son of Marvin May, owned by Mrs. K. Ramsey, won the Francis S. Pea-body Memorial and Lincoln Handicaps. Despite Mucho Gustos efforts, however, Mrs. Ramsey did not finish at the head of the money winning owners list, that honor and profit falling to T. C. Worden, Chicago owner. The Worden horses scored in nine races, were second in six and third in three, earning ,600 of the 92,415 distributed in prizes. The Roscdale Stable fared only slightly worse than Wordens string, its campaigners winning six races and numerous second and third prizes for a total of ,000 and second place. Mucho Gusto had no trouble leading his division of the sport, his two stake victories and one purse triumph totaling ,415 in money, was more than double the amount credited to his closest rival, Merina, winner of the Joliet Handicap and ,250. Cardar-rone, Mareve and Transport were other good winners. Basil James took Crete fans by storm, his riding being the highlight of the meeting. The brilliant young rider piloted forty-four of his 185 mounts to victory for a percentage of .24. Ben Jones and P. L. Kelley saddled nine winners each to share training honors, with F. P. Letcllicr one winner behind. Following are the owners whose horses won ,025 or more: Owner. 1st 2nd. 3rd. Amt Worden, T.
