LEXINGTON SHIPMESTSrHEAVY Close of Eeeneland Meeting and Sales Purchases Responsible, Thirty Head, Principally Brood Mares, Sent to Valdina Farm In Texas Apogee Goes to Farm. LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct. 26. In consequence of Keenelands closing and the sales of last week, together with a number of purchases privately made recently, numerous thoroughbred horses changed location over the week-end. Saturday, Thomas Piatt shipped from his Brookdale Farm three cars to Santa Anita Park, Arcadia, Calif. In two cars were fourteen mares, eight weanlings and two yearlings purchased by Thomas Bragg, Los Angeles broker, from Alex B. Gordon. They are to be residents on the ranch owned by Maj. Carlton Burke, chairman of the California Horse Board. In the other car were fifteen head, principally mares purchased by Neil S. McCarthy and E. D. Janns. They will go to the ranches of their respective owners. James P. Headley took eight to the Tan-foran race track, four yearlings he bought for Joe E. Brown, film star; two yearlings bought by John J. Budd, and a yearling and the mare Pleasant Memories purchased by Thomas B. Cromwell for Charles E. Perkins, Santa Barbara, Calif. Saturday night W. M. Buck, shipped eleven yearlings to Alamo Downs, San Antonio, Texas. Thomas B. Cromwell shipped eight mares to Roger Gillis, Del Rio, Texas, to be turned out on the. ranch for the purpose of producing better cow horses. Cromwell also shipped the yearling chestnut filly by Boatswain Painted Lady to Mrs. Mary H. Jelks, Vail, Ariz. Sunday, G. R. Bryson shipped seventeen yearlings purchased at the sales and privately to Timonium, :Md. The Greehtree string of twelve went to Pimlico in charge of John M. Gaver. James Healy ,took the John Hay Whitney string of. ten to the Ben-ning track,-Washington, D. C. H. H. Battle moved to Churchill Downs from Keeneland with a string of fifteen. Eugene Lutz took six, William Hinphy seven, and: R. N. Vestal ten to Arlington Downs, Arlington, Texas. Thirty head, principally brood mares, were snipped Monday morning from Thomas Piatts Brookdale Farm to Hondo, Texas, to the ranch of Valdina Farms. The majority of the mares were purchased recently by E. F. Woodward, principal owner of the establishment, and by Earl B. Smith, who is identified with Valdina Farms. Woodward left Sunday morning for Texas, and Smith went out today on the same train that took the horses. Trainer Jay Flannigan transferred the Valdina horses from Keeneland to Churchill Downs, today. They will go later to Texas, and with them will go Jakovia, which Thomas B. Cromwell purchased last week for Valdina Farms from J. Bowes Bond of Baltimore. She was shipped from Laurel Park, Sunday afternoon, in. the car with Hal Price Headleys Apogee and others, and arrived here this morning. Apogee went to Beaumont Farm to join the Headley string sent there Sunday mom ing from Keeneland. Whopper and one other are the only Headley horses now at Keeneland. Thomas B. Cromwell has arranged to stand Dark Hero at Thomas Piatts Brookdale Farm next season, unless he should sell him to go to Texas to stand at the ranch of some one who is looking for a horse of his heavy, short coupled type, which reflects in his get Henry H.
