PECULIAR FRENCH LAW SUIT PARIS, France, Oct 26. A peculiar case recently came before the French courts in the provinces. One of the stewards at the meeting at Angers went down to the starting post and gave the start for one of the events. Two of the horses jumped into the elastics rubber tubing as used on the Australian gate, one of which broke and flew back into the face of the steward in question, seriously injuring his eyes. He sued for damages against the race course company, which in turn tried to pass the responsibility on to the owners of the two horses and the jockeys who rode them. This latter plea was ruled out by the court, and damages were awarded against the race Cduraaicoropany. ; - I
