SANGREAL RETURNS TO FORM Defeats All Forlorn by a Neck in Narragansett Attraction. MHKy Way Colt Comes" From Far Back to Annex Major Honors Bluebeard In Initial Score of Year. . PAWTUCKET, R. I., Oct 26. Sangreal was the .class of the six furlongs Westport : Purse, main event at Narragansett Park this afternoon. The son of Sir Gallahad IH. and Hayai came from far off the pace to register the initial triumph of the meeting for the Milky Way establishment of Mrs. Ethel V. Mars. At the winning post he was a neck In advance of the tiring All Forlorn, with the weary pacemaker. Patriotic, a head farther away. His final time of 1:11 marked an excellent performance over a track which had been deadened slightly by the early aft- , ernoon rains. It was the days most popular i score, as the Chicago-owned three-year-old was a stanchly supported choice. He was the second favorite to register in the first five events. Dismal skies and the constant threat of rain which prevailed since early morning cut heavily into the attendance, it being the third straight break against, the. management in as many days. VIGOROUS RIDING. The Milky Way colt left the post very slowly in the feature and had only one horse beaten as they raced along the far side of , the trackj While he; made up some ground on theturn, his cause still appeared a hopeless one as the field straightened away for home. At the top of the stretch Robertson had Sangreal on the outside and a clear path in front of him. Then he bore down with his whip and drove the son of Sir Gallahad III. vigorously with hand and heel, meeting a response . which carried his mount to the leaders twenty yards from the finish. In that brief space he put both All Forlorn and Patriotic away. All Forlorn was rated close to the pace of Patriotic for three-eighths and was then sent after the American Flag colt She disposed of him after a bitter duel from the quarter post to the furlong marker arid then hung herself, to miss major honors. Patriotic, dis- -playing big improvement over two Rocking- . ham Park starts, raced into a commanding early lead only to falter in the final furlong. Trey raced steadily and probably wants a longer route. My Colin and Miss Monoa had brief early speed. FINALLY MAKES GOOD. Bluebeard, after fourteen failures, scored his initial victory in the six furlongs Westerly Purse as he gave Johnny JDeering a double for the afternoon,-a score that-was started in the previous event by Tellwhy. This was another keen finish, with the first three horses in such closealignment as they passed the judges that the camera was required to split them. Calaveras finished fast to take secondary honors from Furfiber, which took the overland route. Then came Bright arid Early with less than a length separating-, the quartette.- Bluebeard broke rapidly, but lacked the early foot to cope with the feather-weighted : Good Omen and Bright and Early. However, Deering drove him hard to maintain a forward position and came around the pair turning for home to put both away, and then outlast Calaveras and Furfiber, as he fifi"" ished the three-quarters in 1:12. He was the third outsider to register, showine 55.80 to . MUCH IMPROVED. ! Boro Poker, racing for his owner-breeder, Lee Rosenberg, displayed a vastly improved effort over any of his previous outings to emerge from the ranks of the non-winners. The son of Desperate Desmond had the speed to move to the front at once, drawing clear in the opening furlongs to make all the running. The finish of the six furlongs dash found Boro Poker with a daylight ad- vantage over Love Potion, from the Mrs. F. Lange-BarteU string. Love Potion was always in closest chase of the leaders, though not good enough when placed under punishment. It was a close one for the lesser pay-off. Black Timber defeating the favored Maurice G., which came from way back in the last three-sixteenths. The winner was a neglected factor in the wagering, returning odds of better than 20 to 1. Good Dame had no difficulty in beating the sprinting platers that opposed her in the second, leading for every stride of the six furlongs journey. Leaving the stalls like a flash, it was no time before the Morvich filly was out in the clear. Rounding the far turn Good Dame was about five lengths before her closest rival, Itsie Bitsie. Continuing with undiminished speed, the finish line was reached with four lnegths to the good. Itsie Bitsie was all out in the chase of the winner, yet managed to stave off the stretch challenge of Bright Don. The latter was under pressure in an effort to keep up early, but was unequal to the task, though showing improved speed through the closing furlongs. TELLWICK SURPRISES. Tellwick, Virginia-bred daughter of Dunlin and Lady Chain, in the stable of Mrs. J. J. Dolan, proved the second of the days surprises as she was up in the last stride to nose Fortuity out of the principal award in the six furlongs of the third. It took the camera to decide this one. A length away was the unfortunate Miss Leannah. Those holding tickets on the winner received .90 for . The successful filly was outpaced in the early stages and did not warm fully to her work until straightened away in the stretch. Then she closed with a powerful burst or speed to gain the decision In the "fes finish of the meeting. This "1,s3-3nCaU3 in her previous Phil Bieber for ,600 from race and ran for ,000 today.
