TOP ROW AMONG STARTERS Baroni Star to Strive for Second Victory in Waggoner Memorial if Training Is Not Retarded. ARLINGTON, Texas, Oct. 26. Top Row, high up among the leading money-winning horses of all time and one of the kingpins of the handicap divisibh, will try for a second victory in the 5,000 added Waggoner Memorial here at Arlington Downs Saturday, November 14, unless training conditions remain too severe for A. A. Baroni to have the gallant son of Peanuts ready for the nine furlongs engagement. This important information was divulged by Baroni at Arlington Downs today, Jn revealing plans for last years winner of the rich Arlington prize, also the 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap, the worlds richest race, among other important fixtures, the Reno turfman made it plain that Top Rows participation in the Waggoner Memorial Handicap hinges entirely on track conditions during the next three weeks. "With anything like a normal, amount of fast or good tracks I hope to have Top Row ready," said Baroni. "Not only that; I want to start him in an overnight race in advance of the handicap so as to insure his thorough fitness for the Waggoner. However, Top Row is too valuable to do all his training under adverse, if not hazardous, conditions, and, while a stiff workout or even a trial race under unfavorable conditions might not result harmfully, I would not attempt enough with him in muddy or heavy going to. justify starting him with the best here less than three weeks from now." Prior to his transfer here from New York Top Row was well advanced in his preparation and some light work was done by the son of Peanuts during the several days the track was fast just prior to the stretch of bad weather -which has kept the racing strip muddy or heavy since opening day. Right now the Interruption in his training has not been lengthy enough to prevent his reaching top condition for the Waggoner, but, as Baroni pointed out, a quick return of firm or fast footing is vital if the five-year-old is to be ready for the most important race of the current meeting.
