1 i LARGEST FIELD IN HISTORY Twenty Probable Starters in Fair Grounds Thanksgiving Handicap. Crescent City Handicap Division Will Be Stronger and Numerically Larger Than. In Recent Years. NEW ORLEANS, La., Oct. 26. Prospects for the largest field in the history of the Thanksgiving Handicap, ,000 added, were indicated in the prospective nominations on file in racing secretary Leighs office. The opening day stake, which will be an all-aged event, at a mile and seventy yards, will have a potential nominating field of fifty with a probability of some twenty or more accepting weights, which will be released a week before the stake is run. Despite the fact that several of the larger stables to come here from Maryland and New England have not as yet filed their list of horses, the following have made application for stable room and have named their principal stake horse as a prospect for the November 27 handicap, which formally opens the"1936-37 racing season in New Orleans for a period of 105 days: H. L. Campbell, Great Haste and Lady Higloss; E. K. Bryson, Carvola; J. B. Theall, Rip Van Winkle; Mrs. V. Wyse, Bachelor Dinner and Civil War; R, A. Coward, Heart Break and Heelon; L. L. Chambers, Old Field; F. C. Dunn, Onrush and Hickory Lad; Blue Ribbon Stock Farm, Lunsford; A. Gaignard, Sir Michael; B. Hernandez, Wpodlander, Lols-chen, Combahee and Biography; Ed Haugh-ton, Cascapedia and Black Highbrow; Albert Ketchall, Thumbs Down; D. L. Ogle, Infidox; S. Molay, Fire Advance; T. L. Pierce, Down in Front; F. P. Letellier, Billbo; A. J. Schuetze, Buckminster; F. M. Staton, Idle Way; D. Womeldorff, Prince Torch; H. T. White, Good Omen and Hadtobe, and R. T. Watts, My Auntie. The Thanksgiving Handicap carries a subscription fee of five dollars with ten dollars additional to start In addition to the feature, there is a ,800 claiming race for three-year-olds carded the same day which undoubtedly will attract quite a few of the better horses jri this division. "We have better prospects for filling the handicap races this winter than ever before," said secretary Leigh, "and this means that we will be able to offer three top races each week in addition to the fourteen stakes which will be run during the meeting. Some of the horses, which are listed in our applications, have been running in from ,000 to 000 races this summer." Condition books for the meeting have been distributed to horsemen throughout the country and several complimentary wires were received during the week from horsemen who plan to ship here.
