HE DEVIL displayed keen speed from the start, increased his advantage as the race progressed and won with something left. BUD SMITH, slow to get going, came around the leaders in the stretch, swerved to the inside while passing SILVER BANQUET, impeding him slightly and easily gained the place. PRAIRIE KING offered good contention for a half mile, then tired. MY MODEL raced evenly without mishap SILVER BANQUET displayed fine early speed, then tired. SWEETEST HEART had no excuses. BAY HAVEN broke slowly and was far back throughout. Overweight — Sweetest Heart, 1 pound. SECOND RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. Chinese Empress, June 14, 1937—1:10*4—6— poQn 103. SATURNINO, rushed to the front after the start, continued gamely under occasional pressure, stood the drive gamely and outfinished HOCKING. The latter attained a forward position early, responded gamely to strong riding and was wearing down the winner. POLVOS IMAGE, subjected to strong pressure early, failed to menace the first two. ALVA COVENTRY, rank at the post, broke well from the outside, improved his position in the stretch and was going gamely in the final stages. MISS KIEV went well. WAR FLIGHT improved his position in the stretch. ROGER WITCH tired. COLOR BELL displayed good early speed. Overweight— Miss Kiev, 3 pounds; Roger Witch, 2; No Doubt, 5. BEAVER COUNTY attained a prominent position early, came around the leaders approaching the stretch, took command without need of pressure, then drew out to win under reserve. WHAT A PAL, in close quarters approaching the stretch, closed strongly when clear. PLAYMAY began slowly, moved up steadily when put to pressure and was going fastest in the closing stages. DARIA, prominent throughout, tired when hard ridden. POLY ROYAL had no excuse. LA MARQUISE began slowly and was outrun. DONNA JAMES quit. The others were never dangerous.
