OMAHA TURF NOTES ! « _ Otto "Brick" Torrell nationally known. | clocker arrived and joined the timing brigade. Torrell formerly raced an extensive stable of horses. Former jockey B. "Buddy" Glass custodian of the jockeys quarters reports about twenty-five riders registered, with several more to come. Among those of the riding colony who have been given reservations in the jockeys room are: S. Roberts, F. Rife, W. Jackson, W. Losee, S. Snodgrass, R. Camp, F. Atkinson, C. Shindle, D. Barnett, 1 A. Barnett, H. Klees, J. Scurlock, H. Col-j berg, K. Watson, R. Hightshoe, N. Merritt, | S. Holccko, T. Corn, L. Josephson, W. Stack, E. De Prang, A. Gunari. Among the apprentices will be: James Ashcroft under contract i to W. M. Buck, and Norman Frash who is i under call to W. J. Potter. Jockey Steve Holecko who abandoned the saddle last summer to take a fling at training, will resume riding, and free lance during the meeting at Ak-Sar-Ben. The veteran I rider will scale as low as 102 pounds. Cecil Willingham who will campaign four horses for Buck and Morgan at this meeting checked in. Aside from conditioning Be- I ginners Bait, Double Brush, Lazy Martha | and Snaithe, he will book the engagements for apprentice J. Ashcroft. After several years absence from Ak-Sar-Ben William J. Potter, of Mobile returns to I this section with four capable performers | which are: Polvos Prince, Polvos Image, j Ovlop and Miss Polvo. Norman Frash I promising apprentice who won twenty-six ; races in twenty-nine days at Agua Caliente I will do the riding for the Potter Stable. I Frash tips the beam at 104 pounds. R. "Rube" Hollenbeck is among the far westerners to invade this region for the first time in many years and has brought the following horses to represent him in the events to be decided at the Ak-Sar-Ben meeting: Vera Crofton, Waft, Cloud Sergeant, and Lawyer Brigade. H. T. "Jim" Palmer is another arrival from Mexico. The veteran owner and trainer will be represented by: Masked Clown, Peace River, and Disaster. All races at six furlongs will be started : out of the chute and from the Bahr Stall I gate. Jockey James Boucher is the only one of i the riding colony that hails from Omaha. j Boucher is back with his former employer, I Fred Nancolas, a combination which has j achieved much success in the past. Bouchers father is superintendent of the Bell Telephone Company here. Eddie Killian, nationally known radio and public address operator, checked in from California Friday. Killian, who has his own equipment, will use the equipment furnished by the Ak-Sar-Ben management. Jockey Lester Pichon was an addition to the riding colony and immediately filed hia application to ride here. Pichon, a veteran reinsman, will ride free lance. He can scale as low as 106 pounds. E. E. Buchanan, Byers, Okla.. horseman, who seldom misses a meeting at Ak-Sar-Ben, is back this season with two horses. They are Sleepy Irish, by Son— Oklahoma Irish, and Irish Girl, by Over There — Oklahoma Irish. Thus the two Buchanan performers are half sisters. 1 — ■
