SKY PIRATE WINS AT OMAHA Gov. Cochran of Nebraska Decorates Winner of Inaugural Feature of the Ak-Sar-Ben Meeting. OMAHA, Neb., May 28.— The black and white silks of Mrs. Hazel Beezley figured in their initial victory when Sky Pirate, a sturdy son of Canter and See Saw II., drove to the line of finish two and one-half lengths before Mrs. M. Petersons Claude Omar, with Z. E. McGregors Tarping three lengths away and a neck before Mitchell and Hendersons highly-regarded His Girl, which finished in fourth place. The winner carried top weight of 121 pounds and raced the five and one-half furlongs in the fast time of 1:05"3, just two-fifths of a second off the record established by Marv, June 26, 1937. There was much pomp and ceremony after the horses returned to the stand and Governor Roy L. Cochran stepped down from the stewards stand, from whence he viewed the running of the race, to decorate the winner with a garland of flowers. The winner had some difficulty settling into his best stride, but once he attained it, he simply romped past his rivals roughshod, and once in command, never left the result in doubt. Claude Omar, lightly regarded among the seven sstarters, furnished a surprise by finishing second, paying 7.60 for second place, while the winner paid for each ticket.
