1 I | j EXPECT RECORD GATHERING Weather to Be a Prime Factor in Memorial Day Attendance at Suffolk Downs Track. BOSTON, Mass.. May 28.— One of the largest crowds of the entire Suffolk Downs meeting is expected for the Memorial Day sport on Monday even though there is no outstanding feature on the program. Last season one of the biggest handles in the history of New England racing and the largest handle of the year in this section was realized at Suffolks holiday, when 58,000 passed through the machines. The cancellation of the match race at Belmont Park will also help to swell the crowd at Suffolk. A large contingent of New Eng- land sportsmen were planning to attend the War Admiral-Seabiscuit match. The weather is an important factor here, since it has been the worst and coldest spring in the history of the Massachusetts weather bureau. Saturday dawned foggy, but the sun shone brightly before noon and it was warm as racing opened. If such conditions prevail on Monday the crowd should run to well over 30,000 and the handle should j ; exceed 00,000. The best event on Mondays program is the three-quarters Memorial Day purse for three-year-olds which has drawn a well-balanced field. Several Yankee Stakes ■ ! eligibles are among those slated for the con- ! test which has drawn eleven horses.
