DETROIT INAUGURAL Goodly-Sized Crowd Present for the Opening Day Program. Dora May Accounts for Featured Attraction hy Defeating Grey Streak and Miss Bull Dog. DETROIT, Mich., May 28.— Dora May entered her 1938 campaign in auspicious fashion when she accounted for the ,500 added Inaugural Handicap, which topped the opening program of the Michigan spring season. Flaunting the colors of Gus Simones Rock-home Stable, the winner, carrying 116 pounds, made every post a winning one to be a half length before Mrs. A. M. Creechs Grey Streak. Third honors went to Valley Grey Farms Miss Bull Dog. The latter, Sweep Royal and Grey Gold were noses apart and a length before Transmutable, Sweep Like and Torchy, the latter a 13-to-10 choice, were seventh and eighth in the field of eight. Under Willie Hanka, Dora May ran the distance over a track classified as fast in 1:12%. She earned ,105 and was a 5-to-l hazard. The winner and Grey Streak dominated the pace from the start with Sweep Like and Torchy holding the others safe during the opening three-eighths. Sweep Like was taken back when in close quarters approaching the stretch and Torchy dropped back when he lacked racing room in the drive. GAIN OVER LEADERS.
