T AGAWAM TURF NOTES ! § - § C. H. "Tobe" Trotter was an arrival from Louisville and assumed charge of the stable of thoroughbreds he has quartered at the Springfield track. Starter Ira Gregory and his crew of assistants are conducting schooling every morning except Sunday, from the six furlongs chute. Wm. E. Shewbridge, paddock and patrol judge at Agawam, came from his home in Maryland Friday, which completed the official personnel at the Springfield course. Jockey Melvin Knight, who topped the list of American jockeys a few years ago, arrived and reported to Dan Hardy in time for the opening of Agawam. The veteran reinsman inaugurated a successful comeback at Aurora this spring. Jockey Tommy Luther came over from Suffolk Downs Tor opening day at Agawam and is considering remaining for the rest of the meeting. Robert Fisher, secretary of the New York Stock Exchange, was a visitor at Agawam with a party of friends. He returned to Gotham Monday night. C. H. "Pat" Knebelkamp, trainer of the Orienta Stable, came over from New York for the Inaugural days program. While here, Knebelkamp announced that appren- 3 tice J. Cartwright would remain here throughout the meeting. Jockeys Eddie Smith and Joe OMalley were additions to the ever-increasing riding colony at Agawam, according to Frank Hawley, custodian of the jockey quarters. Harold "Baldy" Tinker, whose usefulness as a rider was curtailed because of increasing weight, joined the owners and trainers ranks here this morning. Tinker purchased | Maestrung from Mrs. A. Phillips for a pri-| vate consideration and will direct the training of the racer in the future.
