SALAVINA, going in her best form and well handled, worked her way up on the outside, responded readily to urging in the final quarter and wore down BRIEF in the final eighth. BRIEF forced a swift pace for a half mile, assumed a slight lead when straightened out in the stretch, but could not hold her advantage. HILDEGARD began slowly, saved ground while working her way up and closed gamely. SUMAC, slow to begin, improved her position gradually and was going gamely in the last stages. PURPLE WRACK had brief speed. DOGMATA, hard hustled while setting the pace, broke down during the final three sixteenths. The latter, well up from the start and on the inside, closed strongly under urging. TIME ROW forced the pace for the most of the trip and held on gamely under pressure. DUB raced prominently all the way. BAY STOUT had no mishaps. COUNT CLOPORTE tired. MAN AT ARMS refused to break with his field at the start. JOY FLAG, away well and taken under restraint for five eighths, got through on the inside on the stretch turn when CHAUVIN bore out and, taking command when straightened out, held TAUNTON safe. The latter worked his way up on the outside, was subjected to severe punishment in the last quarter and was slowly getting to the winner in the late stages. ORTHOPRISM was under strong urging throughout and held on with good courage JANE McCREA began slowly and closed a good gap in the final three-eighths. CHAUVIN was much usen in gettins to the front in the first five eighths and gave way rapidly in the final quarter. BLANDISHMENT had speed for a half mile, then quit. CARAVEL began slowly, was outrun for five-eighths and improved its position slowly thereafter. CHANCE KING broke rapidly, but dropped back soon after the start and never was a factor. NATTY BOY, on the outside throughout and strongly handled, gained slowly in the final quarter and finished strongly. JANE VITO broke slowly, moved up with a rush on the inside in the first quarter and showed a good effort. INVITING, well up for three-eighths, aved ground throughout but tired under urging. TIME ME moved up with a rush in the back stretch, but tired under strong urging in the last three sixteenths. ASKARIS, close up throughout, saved much ground, but could not threaten the leaders. RONFALON lost considerable ground going around horses while working his way up. ENFIN lacked early speed and was always outrun. STRATEGIST II. refused to break when the start came. MORUN, taken under restraint during the early stages, was forced to go around the leaders when moving up with a rush on the turn and, responding well to urgine, wore down PLAYMORE. The latter got through on the inside entering the stretch and assumed a slight lead, but could not retain his advantage. FLYING MERCURY set a good pace under light restraint, but tired when challenged in the final quarter. BALAPIN was much used forcing the pace and tired. STROPHE and MARYS MAY were always outrun.
