I CLOSING-DAY AT RIVER DOWNS Largest Crowd in History of Track Attends Memorial Day Program. Consistent My Blaze Wins Another Purse in Fifth— Piloted Skillfully by Jockey M. Calvert. CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 30.— Continuous showers throughout the morning and early afternoon did not prevent the largest crowd in Cincinnati racing history from turning out for the Memorial Day program of eight races at River Downs today. Before the first race the tracks parking area had been taxed more than its capacity and racing fans were parked on both sides of the main highway for more than a mile. My Blaze, eight-year-old son of Big Blaze — Elizabeth Hughes, became a six-time winner at the River Downs spring meeting as he exercised a one-length victory over Brilliant Rock, Slippery Jim and five other sprinters in the fifth race of the day. Jockey Melvin Calvert Had Fred Croppers bay gelding away well, and he took the lead nearing the half-mile mark and held on to his advantage doggedly to the end to score. Brilliant Rock was second, a length back of the winner and a nose in front of Slippery Jim, which finished third. My Blaze broke in front, but Davishill soon moved to the front, but could not withstand My Blazes strong bid through the stretch run. A tremendous crowd, estimated at 25,000, jammed every nook and corner of the spacious grandstand, clubhouse and lawns.
