ARLINGTON STAKES CLOSING Midnight Wednesday, June 1, Zero Hour for Making Nominations. Rich Classic, Stars and Stripes, Matron, Cup and Inaugural Handicap Among the Fixtures. Six of the eight stakes, including the 0,000 added Classic Stakes that looms as the titular tilt for 1938 three-year-olds, will close at the Arlington Park Jockey Clubs offices here on Wednesday, June 1. The final payments for the 0,000 gross Arlington Futurity and the 0,000 gross Arlington Lassie Stakes were made May 16 and, with the closing of the remaining stakes Wednesday, the full complement of features for the thirty days meeting opening June 27 will be rounded out. Contributing 06,000 in added money for the stakes to the total of approximately 47,600 that will be distributed by The Jockey Club to horsemen during the thirty days that annually form the high climax of mid-western racing, the Arlington Park meeting maintains its position among the leaders of the sport in America. Following are the six stakes which close their nominations here Wednesday, June 1: 0,000 added Classic Stakes, for three-year-olds at a mile and a quarter, to be yan on Saturday, July 23. Note— A fourteen-karat solid gold replica of the 1929 Coronation Cup won in England by Reigh Count will become permanent possession of the winning owner. ARLINGTON CUP. 5,000 added Arlington Cup, weight-forage, three-year-olds and upward, at a mile and a quarter, to be run on Saturday, July 30. 0,000 added Stars and Stripes Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward at a mile and a furlong, to be run on Monday, July 4. ,000 added Arlington Matron Handicap, for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and upward, at one mile, to be run on Saturday, July 2. ,500 Arlington Inaugural Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward at seven furlongs, to be run on Monday, June 27. ,500 Hyde Park Stakes, for two-year-olds at five and a half furlongs, to be run on Saturday, July 9. A smaller gold replica of the famous Coronation Cup will be presented to the winning owner of the Arlington Futurity. It is likely that a trophy will be given to the winning owner of the new Arlington Cup, declared John D. Hertz, chairman of the Arlington executive board.
