BEULAH PARK OPENING To Inaugurate Ohio Racing Season Under Unfavorable Conditions. Bad Weather and Track Certain for Initial Days Sport Plenty of Horses and Riding Material. GROVE CITY, Ohio, April 21. With unfavorable weather and track conditions none too promising, the Beulah Park Jockey Clubs spring meeting will get under way here tomorrow and, incidentally, mark the opening of the racing season in Ohio. Much rain here of late, and a real downpour this morning, left the track ankle deep in sloppy mud. The sky still remained heavily clouded, and a cold, strong wind swept the course. Despite the inclement condition, a nice card has been prepared for the initial days sport. Large fields are carded in seven of the eight events, the exception being the inaugural purse, a dash at six furlongs, in which an evenly balanced field of five shifty sprinters have accepted. Large fields are likely to rule through the meeting, as there are 600 horses quartered at this track, and the overflow had to be sent to the Fair Grounds in Columbus, where 160 head are located. The class of horses is much above the standard which has raced here in recent years, and a most successful meeting is anticipated. PARKE ON HAND. Many large stables will take part here for the first time, among them Ivan Parke, with ten head; W. R. Sallee, with fifteen, the property of Frank Seremba; J. Baumbach, with eight, among them Zcvson; and Harry Silver, with "Lucky" Teeters band of eight head. H. D. King is a newcomer with nine. Included in the A. R. Mann stables of twelve is My Blaze. The Sonada Stable of six horses, which includes C-Note, will be campaigned by Jack Hayes. That there will be no scarcity of competent riding talent is best evidenced by the fact that fifty-five jockeys have already reported for duty, including W. Page, the leading rider here last fall, and "Buddy" Vail, who headed the winning list here at the spring meeting a year ago. Others well known to local patrons include J. Long, H. Derden, G. Gleason, J. Dobson and C. Hartle. Earl Pool, the veteran, will make his debut at Beulah Park at this meeting, as will C. Fields, another veteran. APPRENTICE RIDERS. There are eleven apprentice jockeys already on the scene, among them J. Flin-chum, who rode with considerable success at Hot Springs. He came in today from Keeneland Park, E. Elam, J. Juarez, P. Keiper, P. Milligan, S. Brooks and M. N. Gonzales are others in this category who will sport colors at this meeting ! All of the racing officials were on hand today, completing details for the opening. Among them are judge T. C. Bradley, who will serve as presiding steward. Owen Pons and E. W. Stribling will be associate stewards; Fred Burton and E. W. Stribling, placing judges; W. C. Daly, starter; Jack Yerian, paddock and patrol judge; Fred Burton, racing secretary; Tom Moran, clerk of the scales; and John Cleary, who will also act as a patrol judge. . I
