GRAND DUKE, hurried into a short lead, met stout opposition from JAMES PAL, but saved ground and barely lasted to hold IDLE ELF. The latter, kept close to the leaders, moved up fast near the stretch and, finishing on the outside, just failed to get up. JAMES PAL challenged strongly and held on well. PRIN-CIPESSA began sluegishlv and, taken wide, could not reach the leaders. PATCHPOCKET was never a serious threat. FLAG UNFURLED lacked speed. BEAUFAST could not enter a forward position. ROYAL CROSS, "racing prominently and saving ground in the earjy racing, challenged strongly in the stretch, finished fast and was up to win in the last fifty yards. APPREHEND moved up on the outside and, going to the front midway of the stretch, tired from his early efforts near the finish. WAY OUT was used up racing with MR. DUNCANNON and tired in the drive. LULA KHAYYAM, allowed to drop back in the first eighth and, moving up stoutly on the turn, swung wide, but closed gamely. 1TSIE BITSIE was gaining steadilv in the drive. MR. FICTITIOUS, forced to race on the outside, worked her way up gradually, but could not menace the winner. MANYMOR, far out of it early, finished gamely on the outside. PLOT was close up throughout and was hard urged, but tired in the final test. PART ONE raced on his own courage all the way. HARDIHOOD raced forwardly and had no excuses. SUPERSTITION, pinched back in the first few strides, was rated back of the leaders while racing on the outside and, moving up strongly on the last turn, reached the leaders, took a short lead in the last eighth and held on gamely in a sustained drive. DARK WATCH, steadied back of the pacemaker, challenged strongly on the last turn, saved ground through the stretch and fought it out gamely. AFFAIR had much speed to set the pace under steadying restraint, but tired in the strech when shaken up. MANY FLAGS raced well placed and had no mishaps. GREEDAN broke slowly and was outrun. SLATTERN went close up Irom the start, challenged strongly and closed a gap slowly on the outside. SUN VICTOR was kept under pressure throughout, but failed to reach the. leaders. CAREFUL MISS raced strongly for three-quarters, then tired. RED JACK bore out to lose ground on the first turn, then was held safe. Overweight Careful Miss, 1 pound. The latter, close up early, finished well after falling back at the final turn. WOODWAAC was hustled hard to get to the front and tired from his early efforts. GLISTEN showed good form. SCARLET 0. was kept on the outside to find room, but was not good enough. COUNTER PASS, sluggish early, closed well. PLAYMORE was outrun. POPO failed to respond to urging. CHILLY EBBIE raced well.
