DETROIT BULL WINS IN DRIVE Outlasts Diavolo Boy to Account for Kentucky Press Purse. Jockey Porter Roberts Gives Bull Dog Colt Hustling Ride Charitable and Mi Jock Win Juvenile Races. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 21 Detroit Bull, from the Bomar Stable of Charles Bohn and P. A. Markey, Detroit sportsmen, gained a nose decision over Valdina Farms Diavolo Boy, the favorite in the featured Kentucky Press Purse at Keeneland this afternoon. The track again was in soft condition, showers falling early this morning. Despite the inclement weather, the crowd was of good size and wagering was brisk. Given good handling from Porter Roberts, Detroit Bull led all the way over the mile and one-sixteenth distance of the main event but the four-year-old gelded son of Bull Dog and My Lava was tiring towards the end and only by hard riding was he able to outlast Diavolo Boy. The Blue Ridge Farms Elooto was third, four lengths away and well before Don Moss as Flip Flap and Old Nassau completed the field. ROBERTS HUSTLES. Roberts hustled Detroit Bull away from the post and after establishing him in a clear lead, took him under steadying restraint. The Bomar horse relished this sort of handling and increased his advantage to three lengths going down the back stretch. I Rounding the turn, however, Diavolo Boy began reducing the leaders advantage and was at his heels entering the stretch. The pacemaker made a wide turn into the stretch, and Diavolo Boy came out after him, but not until the pair were straightened out that the favorite further reduced the advantage held by the leader. Roberts had saved his mount, however, and was able to hold him in command until a stride after the finish. Elooto, which had been compelled to do his running on the inside throughout, had no difficulty holding on for third honors as Don Moss was a tiring fourth. The time for Detroit Bull, which was moderately regarded in the wagering, was 1:48. Galley Sweep and G. Wallace made a successful combination in the opening event, the veteran Aga Khan gelding carrying the Hopeful Stock Farm colors, winning by half a length over H. H. Battles Queenie, as Don Dash, owned by Keene Daingerfield, Jr., was another two lengths back. Mature, the favorite, was fourth. MADDEN RACE. The Milky Way Farms Charitable, making his first start, was much the best of the! ten maiden juveniles meeting over the Head-ley course in the second event. Although racing greenly and finishing near the out- side rail, the son of Wise Counsellor and Benevolence won by three and a half lengths over L. B. Mayers Lynn. Valdina Farms Valdina Masque was another length back and a similar distance before Granicus. Johnny Oros drove I Chase, owned by B. W. Stivers, to a half length victory over H. M. Walkers Ada W. in the third race as Star Bess was a head farther back and a length before Presumption. Eight lowly platers made up the field for the six furlongs dash, with Chicalba being a slight favorite over Star Bess. Mi Jock, son of Jock and Mi Concha and making his first start, drove to a head victory over the strongly backed The Ranger in the Crystal Springs Purse, fourth event. Sunny Muir was third, a length back of The Ranger and the same distance before Sunny Swede, which tired after pacemaking the greater part of the Headley course sprint. Miss June Bug and Sunny Swede led The Ranger and Sunny Muir into the stretch, where the latter drove down on the outside to take command and rapidly establish a clear lead. The winner, flaunting Howard Oots banner, came on to take the decision in the final stride. The six horses I. J. Collins had here were sent to Churchill Downs. Three horses, the property of W. E. Smith, left here Friday morning in charge of Jack Weaver for Louisville.
