The riding of apprentice Johnny E. Oros, Aurora, 111., boy, featured the fourteen-day spring meeting of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association at Bowie. The son of trainer John Oros rode nineteen winners out of his seventy-six mounts during the meeting for a percentage of .25, and in so doing he displaced. Don Meade as leading jockey of the American turf with 105 winning mounts for the year. Purses totaling 15,205 were distributed during the meeting for a daily average of ,228.93. Favorites were successful in twenty-four of the ninety-eight races run, and only one out of eight odds-on choices met defeat. J. Yancey Christmas lead the list of money winning owners with ,575, which he won when he sent out Rough Time to account for the Rowe Memorial Handicap. D. J. Sullivan, with ,060 won, finished second.
