CRISPIN OGLEBAY — His homebred, Noble Impulse, earned a starting berth in Saturdays Preakness field by his score in yesterdays Survivor. Ponder Ponder Heads Heads East East for for Preakness; Preakness; My My Emma Emma Scores Scores in in Water Water Blossom Blossom To Face Four Derby Rivals Once Again Calumets New Star, Capot Old Rockport, Palestinian Model Cadet Go to Pimlico CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisvilk. Ky., May 9. — Headed by Ponder, surprise hero of the race, five of the 14 colts who took part in last Saturdays long +o be remembered Diamond Jubilee running of the Kentucky Derby either are at Pimlico or soon will be there to keep engagements in Saturdays renewal of the Preakness Stakes, another of Americas great fixtures for three-year-olds. Besides Ponder, other Derby contestants moving east with definite designs on the Preakness were Capot, Palestinian, Old Rockport and Model Cadet, who finished second, third, fourth and seventh respectively behind the Calumet Farm colt, whose victory gave owner Warren Wright his fourth triumph and trainer Ben A. Jones his fifth success in the Kentucky classic. Ponder, Capot and Mode? Cadet remained here until this morning when the trip to the Maryland track started. Palestinian and Old Rockport, first of the Derby colts to head for Pimlico, left yesterday and their safe arrival at the Preakness course was reported from that point earlier today. Flown back to New Yorks Belmont Park where the Fred W. Hooper stable is headquartering, Olympia, soundly beaten in the Derby for which he was installed a 4 to 5 choice, is at this time neither in nor out of the Preakness. When loading Olympia and Ocean Drive, another Hooper star, for the three-hour flight to LaGuardia Airport, trainer Ivan Parke said that he and owner Hooper preferred to wait anocher 24 hours and possibly a little longer, before deciding whether Olympia is to report at Pimlico on Saturday. Ocean Drive is not eligible to start in the Preakness. Derby starters definitely out of the Maryland race are Duplicator, Johns Joy and Ky. Colonel. Others who took part in last Saturdays race, including Halt, who Continued on Page Two Ponder Heading East For Preakness Stakes Derby Winner to Face Four He Beat at Downs Again Saturday Contiiiued from Page One finished in fifth position, were not nominated for the Pimlico fixture. Duplicator leaves Friday for the Santa Anita track in Southern California, while Johns Joy and Ky. Colonel are to remain here. Later, Johns Joy will be transferred to the Fair Grounds, at Detroit, as Ky. Colonel goes to Washington Park for racing at the Lincoln Fields Racing Associations meeting. Johns Joy is to fill important engagement at both Detroit and Chicago, and may be seen at eastern tracks later in the season. Decision to take a little more time before selecting Olympias next engagement came after the stable had indicated that the Derby choice would pass up the Preakness. As other Derby starters have been shipped back to New York before invading Maryland to start in the Preakness, nothing significant attaches to Olympias return to the stables Long Island base. However, Parke and Hooper did intimate that, in view of Olympias Derby effort, serious consideration would be given the possibility of ever racing the son of Heliopolis, who has been through a hard winter and spring campaign. "A rest at this time," said Parke, "would return him to top form within a short time." With Ponder, trainer Jones shipped the Pimlico Oaks candidate Wistful, winner of the Kentucky Oaks; Contribution and Good Ending. On reaching Pimlico, the Calumet thoroughbreds will be unloaded by Jones son Jimmy, who has a large division of the stable in Maryland. The elder Jones is flying to Baltimore tomorrow. Other Pimlico Oaks hopefuls traveling east with the Preakness candidates were Mrs. Royce G. Martins Tall Weeds and Lady Dorimar, and Mrs. Susan B. Kelloggs Admired. Lextown and Jacks Town are two additional Derby starters moving on to new fields. The former will be shipped to Washington Park on Wednesday, as Jacks Town rejoins stablemates in New Jersey. Wine List, not named for the Preakness, accompanied his stable companion and Derby runner-up Capot to Pimlico. Wine LLst is to be pointed for the Withers Stakes at Belmont Park. The fact that not one of the 14 colts who participated in the exciting contest suffered as much as a scratch testifies to the clean manner in which the seventy-fifth chapter of the historic Derby was unfolded before a throng of approximately 115,000. Horsemen, who, over the week-end, had sufficient time to carefully analyze the chart of the race, seemed agreed that while the winner was brilliant, the race run by Capot stamped him as the one to beat in the Preakness. They viewed the Greentree Stable colts accomplishment in "running down" the fleet favorite Olympia as a heavy contribution to Ponders success and if the Hooper horse is not in the Preakness field, they doubt if the Calumet colt can overtake Capot at the shorter distance of the Maryland stake.
