Trainer Tom Driscoll Dies By Own Hand in New Jersey GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 9. — Word was received here today that trainer Tommy Driscoll had com- j mitted suicide by inhaling gas at Red Bank, N. J., yesterday. Driscoll, according to friends and associates, had been despondent for some time, but had never divulged the reasons for his morbid condition. Before embarking upon his career as a trainer, Driscoll had been associated with James Fitzsimmons at Aqueduct for many years as an assistant trainer and foreman. On several occasions he supervised the training of the combined Wheatley Stable and Belair Stud horses which were raced in Florida. In recent years he trained a division of the High Ground Stable, nom de course of Alice F. Sherman of New Jersey. Driscoll was in his fifties. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
