— « Some Town Leads Throughout To Annex Moorestown Purse ! Palatine Stable Racer Hardt Urged by Gilbert to Insure Popular Win Over Rivertown GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 9. — Some Town, with the veteran Johnny Gilbert in the saddle, dominated the running from the start to annex the major award of the Moorestown Purse, which occupied the feature position today. At the finish of the mile and 70 yards journey, the son of Littletown and Some Gala held better than a length the best of Rivertown, racing for H. P. Headley, while in third place was Floating from the Brookmeade Stable. Eleven started in this test, and the winner racing under the Palatine Stable banner, was the popular choice. He sped the distance in l:421/5, which was regarded as a commendable effort, for a .20 mutuel. Garden State Park entered the first full week of the spring meeting and some 12,250-odd patrons journeyed to the course to witness a program that furnished some interesting competition with favorites in the ascendancy. The overhead conditions were clear and the racing strip fast. The best event was under claiming conditions ranging from 0,000 downwards. The 11 left the starting stalls in good alignment. Some Town, carrying top-weight of 121 pounds, outran his company to the first turn and thereafter held sway. He showed the way to Rivertown in the running while Bases Loaded, Vals Kid and Best Go were never far from contention. Rounding the far turn, Rivertown surged up but Gilbert permitted his mount to move along at the speed that he displayed during the early running. Turning for home, Rivertown again made a bid, a futile one, for the pacemaker, when roused, shook this off without excess exertion. Gilbert, however, kept his mount under urging to the finish line to insure victory. Claimed Out of Race for 0,000 The race cost the H. P. Headley stable another starter for Rivertown was claimed for 0,000 by Mrs. E. H. Beezley. This marked the second highest-priced claim of the meeting. Tannette, racing for Mrs. Claude C. Tanner of New Orleans, graduated from the non-winners ranks at the first asking this season. The daughter of Bimelech and Forever Yours, which as a yearling was a costly purchase, failed dismally in five efforts as a two-year-old to win her diploma. Today, under the handling of apprentice Fred Lewis, she outran 10 others to score by a wide margin. Lucille F. was second here with Gallant Nurse third. This event, at six furlongs, was for non-winning three-year-old fillies. Jockey Jimmie Stout, the veteran who finds the New Jersey atmosphere conducive to winning efforts, added another to his score when he drove Eternal Flight, from the Jerry McCarthy Stable, to victory in the fourth race. This was a dash for juveniles under claiming conditions. Leon-idoff, racing for Larry MacPhail, was second with Beau Jay third. The winner, a well supported choice, dominated the running and in the stretch run shook off a determined bid from the MacPhail repre-| sentative. Beau Jay, although well up throughout, was unable to menace the others while finishing third. The winner sped the distance in :59y5 for a .80 payoff.
