SMART EDDIE was kept close to the pace from the start, shook off his opposition rounding the stretch turn and drew away. BLACKMONT was outrun in the first part, worked his way between horses in the early running, moved to the outside for the stretch run and closed fast. CHERISH, on the inside from the start, held on well. ROMANCER was close up all the way, but faltered in the final furlong. IRON PIGEON made a bid turning for home, then faltered VACANCE had no mishap. ON THE RIVER had early speed. Overweight— Cherish, 1 pound. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-4 MILES out of chute. SARAWAK was under restraint for the first mile, moved up with a rush at the far turn and, under pressure in the stretch run, was drawing away SNOB TOURIST was close up all the way and, in the stretch, run was sent to the inside of the leaders to finish well. ART BROWN bore over sharply after the start and bothered BELLCLAPPER and SARAWAK was under restraint in the running, but flattened out sharply at the end. PELOPS had early speed, but quit badly.
