Strauss to a five-yearterm on the Atomic Energy Commission, succeeding chairman Gordon Dean. Strauss, one of the original AEC champions of the H-Bomb, was nominated as commission member and will be designated chairman by the President. Last Appeal to Rhee TOKYO, Japan, Thursday, June 25. — President Eisenhowers personal trouble shooter goes to Korea today, as the war enters its fourth year, to make a new — and possibly final— attempt to get Korean President Syngman Rhee to accept an armistice. Rhee plans to greet presidential envoy Walter Robertson, Assistant Secretary of State, with a 1,000,000-person anti-truce demonstration in Seoul. Hearings on Gasoline Increases WASHINGTON, D. C., June 24.— Chairman Charles A. Wolverton R.-N.J. , said today the House Interstate Commerce Committee will hold hearings July 1 on recent increases in gasoline and heating oil prices. "We have received many protests these past few days relating to the series of gasoline price increases which have been put into effect, particularly on the Eastern Seaboard," he said. Favors. Special UN Session LONDON, England, June 24.— Britain favors calling a special meeting of the United Nations General Assembly soon if South Korean President Syngman Rhee continues to block a truce, authoritative diplomatic sources said-today. Prime Minister Winston Churchill was said to feel that such a session would demonstrate to Rhee that world public opinion condemns his actions, in releasing prisoners arid insisting, on continuing the war. Cancel Kaiser Contract • WASHINGTON, D. C, June 24.— The Air Force today canceled its contract with the Kaiser Manufacturing Co., for the production of C-119 cargo planes at Willow Run, Mich. Industrialist Henry J. Kaiser has been testifying before Senators in defense of the initial cost of the big cargo planes. Senators have called their cost excessive. See East German Purge BERLIN, Germany, June 24. — Threats of a sweeping purge of East Germanys Red regime were made today by frightened officials seeking scapegoats for the con*-tinuing, violent anti-Communist revolt. Red courts, down to the level of justices of the peace, were working overtime dealing out death penalties and other harsh punishment to lower-echelon Germans tagged with responsibility for the uprisings.
