Resurface Wheeling Strip WHEELING W. Va., June 24.— The Wheeling Downs racing strip is being completely resurfaced for the 61-day summer meeting opening July 18. Forty-two hundred cubic yards of new sandy loam will replace several inches of the old track. The new loam, which is something new for this part of the country, was located in a hill about 15 miles from the track, and has been hauled here by a fleet of trucks. This new soil, it is believed, will* correct the somewhat "heavy going" that has troubled the track owners in the past when extraordinary rains fell on the strip that has been covered many times by the overflowing Ohio River.
