Five Furlongs in :59]/5 DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 24. — Mrs., Esther duPont Weirs Royal Vale and Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords One Count, scheduled highweight starters • in Saturdays 5,000 added Sussex Handicap under 130 and 127 pounds respectively, have trained splendidly for their meeting in that mile and one-quarter jaunt. Royal Vale, the English-bred who already has a quintet of stakes successes to his credit this season, had early morning arrivals checking their watches this morning as he reeled off five furlongs in :59% handily. The final furlongs of the spin was accomplished in :11%, which is a true indication of trainer Jim Ryans charges ability. One Count, the Horse of the Year during the 1952 season, still is seeking his initial stakes score of the year, and recent training suggests that the Sussex may be just the spot for brackets. Only Tuesday morning, the four-year-old was timed in 2:06% for a mile and one-quarter. That time was a full. second and two-fifths faster than time credited to Post Card, who is scheduled to act as a running mate for One Count. Post Card accounted for the Brandywine recently over To Market and Senator Joe. Add Two Probables to List Theprobable field for the Sussex was augmented by two this morning with the arrivals of Jack Amiels Count Turf and North Downs Farms Risque Rouge. Count Turf, hero of the 1951 Kentucky Derby, was recently third behind Royal Vale and Larry Ellis in the Massachusetts Handicap and has been assigned 111 pounds for the Sussex. Risque Rouge, a former King Ranch campaigner, was a Canadian winner last Stakes in time which equaled the mile and a sixteenth track record. He gets in the Sussex under 106 pounds. William Ziegler, Jr.s Bit o Fate may have earned a starting position in the Sussex this morning when he breezed a mile in 1:44. Though his recent races have been none too impressive, Bit p Fate could give a fair account of himself at the distance and under 107 pounds. Listed among the possibilities for the week-end attraction are: Alfred G. Van-derbilts First GlancerKing Ranchs High Scud, Belair Studs Golden Gloves, Ogden Phipps Ancestor, C. V. Whitneys Cold Command and one or two lesser lights. Tomorrows feature is the ,000 Manor Purse, a mile and one-sixteenth affair for three-year-olds. The three were noses apart on the wire in one of the best finishes of the season. Scheduled to compete against Shadow Boxer and Spring Grove in the Manor are the following: Slam Thru, If Money, Muguet, Ramp, Rebel Spy, Mr. Mighty, Eternal Sir, Khan and Alf a Mo.
