Twelve Stakes on Roster For Meeting at Del Mar Provide Ample Competition for Juvenile and Sophomore Racers DEL MAR, Calif., June 24. — A record purse and stakes program for the fourteenth summer meeting of the Del Mar Turf Club, opening July 25, was approved Monday by the California Horse Racing Board. Featuring 12 stakes with an aggregate value of 60,000 and an average daily distribution of 2,000 in purses, exclusive of stakes, the turf-surf course will offer a formula on the 4-3-2.8 basis. That means horsemen will be assured of 4 per cent of the pari-mutuel handle on the first 0,-000,000 wagered; 3 per cent on the second 0,000,000 and 2.8 per cent on all over 0,000,000 wagered. This formula is the highest ever offered at a Southern California track and it represents 38 per cent of Del Mars pari-mutuel- income. Alfred Hart, president of the Del Mar Turf Club, in announcing the purse and stakes program, said the minimum purse will be ,200. Topping the stakes are the sixth running of the 5,000 added Del Mar Futurity, which will have a gross value approximating 0,000, and the 5,000 added Del Mar Handicap, to be renewed for the fourteenth time on Labor Day, September 7. In line with its policy of providing ample stakes competition for younger thoroughbreds Del Mar will offer five added-money events for three-year-olds and upward. The complete list of stakes follows: July 25— Bing Crosby Handicap, 0,000, three-year-olds,and upward, six furlongs. -August 1 — Oceanside Handicap, 0,000, three-year-olds, six furlongs. August 8— La Jolla Handicap, 0,000, three-year-olds, one mile. August15 — San Diego Handicap, 0,000, three-year-olds and upward, one and one-sixteenth miles. August 15 — Junior Miss Stakes, 0,000, two-year-old fillies, non-stakes winners, six furlongs. August 22— Del Mar Derby, 5,000, three-year-olds, one and one-eighth miles. August 22 — Graduation Stakes, 0,000 two-year-olds, non-stakes winners, six furlongs. August 29 — Del Mar Debutante Stakes, 5,000, two-year-old fillies, six furlongs. Estimated gross value 0,000. September 5 — Del Mar Futurity, 5,000. two-year-olds, six furlongs. Estimated gross value 0,000. September 7— Del Mar Handicap, 5,-000, three-year-olds and upward, one and one-eighth miles.
