Tetratomic Scores Game Victory at Cranwood Park Comes From Last Place to Beat Make Haste Under Eddie Plesa By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent PRANWnnn P A "R. TT WnrrpnKvillp Heights, Ohio, June 24. — Mrs. Virginia McKenneys Tetratomic, ridden by Eddie Plesa, scored the gamest victory of his long racing career here this afternoon. The homebred Good Goods gelding came from absolutely last while on the backstretch to garner a three-quarter of a length decision over Make Haste who in turn was a head in front of the tiring favorite Moro. Time for the six furlongs was 1:14and only a fifth of a second over the track standard and the winner paid .20 as the second choice. Ted Lewis, the famous nightclub entertainer, was on hand to present a blanket to the winning horse. Lewis, a staunch racing enthusiast, is now appearing at one of Clevelands leading niteries. It was another lovely afternoon for the sport and a crowd of 4,200 was on hand. Form which had been holding up very well thus far took a nosedive this afternoon and through the seventh race chalk players were still looking for their first victory. Tetratomic broke ninth in the 10 -horse field and racing into the backstretch was last some eight and one-quarter lengths in back: of Moro and Embers who were setting a blistering pace. Plesa started to make his move on the gelding midway down the backstretch and he responded gamely, and saving every possible inch of ground* was fourth at the head of the stretch still better than four lengths in arrears. Moro was in front by three and appeared to be "home free." However, Plesa never gave up on Tetratomic and driving him through on the rail was up in the final 70 yards to dispose of the tiring Moro and then drew clear. Tetratomic was making his fifth start of the year and was-scoring his second victory. He finished fifth here the other afternoon beaten three lengths by Dis Pete in the Plain Dealer Handicap. G. R. Watkins Paddock Acres, a fine-looking bay daughter of Pasteurized, scored an impressive four and one-half lengths decision in the third race under a steadying ride by Buck Thornburg. Susan Lee C, the rank, outsider, was second and the heavy favorite, Heyboss, ridden by Eddie Plesa, was third another three parts of-a length in arrears. Paddock Acres paid .80 and ran the mile and one-furlong in 1:55% just a fifth of a second over the track standard. George Morrison, the leading trainer at this point, saddled the winner. Paddock Acres broke third, but soon moved into second position, two lengths in back of Susan Lee C, who was setting a blistering pace. While on the clubhouse turn, Thornburg decided to make his move and Paddock Acres responded gamely overtaking the pacesetter as soon as the horses hit the straightaway of the backstretch. On the final bend, the eventual winner drew clear by two lengths and then increased that margin at will while being ridden out in the final eighth of a i.iile. The Cremona Farms Sea Weather, given an excellent ride by apprentice Jimmy Mayer, came through with a thrilling head decision over Dear Moose in the sixth race.
