Stage Indiana Day At River Downs Seven Horses Owned by Residents of Hoosier State Named for Event By R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 24. — Seven Indiana-owned thoroughbreds will vie for the honors of the Hoosier State, on Indiana Day at River Downs as the entire program is turned over to the visiting neighbors of this southern Ohio course. Lieut. Gov. Harold Handley will lead the delegation of sporting Indianians and the crack mounted colorguard of the State of Indiana will execute their intricate quadrilles for the patrons present. The seven horses named for the -,500 Indiana Purse, which is for bona fide resi-dnets of the state of Indiana, who race their horses at River Downs, are Mrs. J. Bronnenbergs Sultaness, G. Bruces Two Bees, C. H. Youngs Boss Ellis, J. Raders Ropley, F. H. Swaims La Shirl, B. R. Morrows Seven Graces and Frisse and Jones _ _ r-ii- c r~* „1 J A n -C i-T 1 been racing at River Downs regularly and the proximity of their homes is expected to bring large hosts of friends out to root for their favorite sons. Sultaness, Won Last Two Sprints Sultaness is a winner of her last two starts at sprinting distance and trainer Bronnenberg will be trying to stretch the daughter of The Sultan — Time Light over the mile and a "sixteenth route for the first time in two seasons. Sultaness abilities at the route are an unknown quantity but she must be given an honest chance off her last two winning efforts. Boss Ellis is also coming off a River Downs win and is a more steady router while La Shirl was well liked in a recent outing only to falter after getting to a contending position. Owner Swain may have had Thursdays race in mind and the effort will certainly enhance La Shirl s chances to take down the honors. Far from overshadowed by the Indiana owners race is a good allowance race, preceding the feature, at the same distance. Such stalwarts as Oklahoma Kid, Ground Fog, Alabama Belle, Reddy Boy and Tru-chon will meet in a race the equal of any that has been seen locally thus far. It will serve as an exciting appetizer to the Indiana owners race in what should be a fine day of sport at River Downs.
