Silver Valjean Engages Seven in Tyro Lad Purse Sickler Fiye-Year-Old Has Dream OMoley, Spizerinktom to Beat By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent PAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., Aug 19. The Tyro Lad Purse, honoring a favorite sprinter of the mid 194.0s at Fair-mount Park, brings together a crack band of eight to compete here tomorrow night at five and one-half furlongs. Ken G. Sick-lers Silver Valjean, a swiftf five-year-old son of Jean Valjean, looms the post-time favorite with jockey Valentine Calderone to be in the saddle at 114 pounds. The opposition could be formidable from several points, and consists of James C. Ellis Dream OMoley, William C. Weants Dixie Mae, O. and H. C. Veachs Miss Crossbow, Harold J. Estopinals Miss Taggs, E. G. Mahoneys Kissable, John Stelles Spizerinktom, and Mey-Well Acres Farms Lady of Time. Silver Valjean has shown consistent form throughout the summer and in his last start a week ago, he was in closest chase of Mary H. for six furlongs, finishing a length and a half behind and daylight before the others in the field, of whom one was Miss Taggs. He also started in the Inaugural .Purse and finished third; placing three-quarters of a length in front of Dream OMoley. Dream OMoley is oneof the favorites strongest rivals. The homebred Stop Clock gelding has early speed to match that of Silver Valjean and will find the short distance to his liking. He returned in a second effort here and fought for the pace into the stretch before giving way to finish seventh behind the winning Scotch Town. Dream OMoley will be ridden by the Ellis contract jockey,- Billy Buell. Spizerinktom fits in well with this field and looms another threat, along with Kiss-able and Miss Crossbow. The latter pair may have trouble getting home in this calibre company, but both are exceedingly quick in racing to the pace. The weather and track conditions are expected to remain ideal, as they have been the past week. The program last night brought out a crowd of 6,441 under the lights, with a fair division of favorites and outsiders capturing the eight events. The featured Myrtlewood Purse was taken by D. Pailets Bouncing Bern, with jockey Frank Keene having the Bernborough colt; in safe command through most of the journey to finish daylight before the favorite, Mrs. C. Greenes Sams Bride.
