New Jersey Notes ATLANTIC CITY, Mays Landing, N. J., Aug. 19. Bill Zimmerman, veteran Maryland trainer, has taken over the Philadelphia-owned Hillside Stock Farm. Zimmerman has 11 horses in training here. J. Yancey Christmas, veteran Maryland trainer, bedded down a quartet of horses, the property of George A. Garrett, former ambassador to Ireland. Little Flirt TJ.f an eligible for Saturdays Mermaid Handicap, accompanied by Trojan Monarch, Ganymede TJ. and Doctor Dan, arrived from the Maryland farm. Henry Block, Camden apprentice who led the jockeys at the recent Charles Town meeting, checked in with Jim Ferris, custodian of the jockeys quarters. The 19-year-old lightweight rider is under contract to the Bohemia Stable of Mrs. Richard duPont and his engagements are handled by Joe Harrigan. Soft Pedal, Mollie Fagan and Yock Tom arrived here from Belmont Park. Al Jensen will condition the trio during the 50-day session here. The inaugural running of the 0,000 added Miss America Turf Stakes, one mile grass race on August 29, closed with 33 nominations. The event is the only turf course race in the country exclusively for three-year-old fillies. Charles "Sweaters" Loeffler, agent for apprentice Al Tryon, returned from his Wheeling W. Va.-, home where he was called following the death of is brother, Harold Loeffler. - Sammy Boulmetis, leading rider in New Jersey this season, is showing the way among the jockeys at the end of the first five days of sport with seven winners. Logan Batcheller, Nick Shuk and Harrison B. Wilson were deadlocked for second honors with four each. Jack Long, Darby Dan Farm trainer, is head man among the conditioners with four wins, while Tom W. Kelly was next with three wins. Charlie Burr has been engaged to ride David J. Schneiders Elixir in Saturdays 5,000 added Boardwalk Handicap. Nominations for the 5,000 added King Neptune Handicap, one of three sprint stakes for older horses added to the original list of 16 stakes here, close tomorrow. The three-quarter-mile test for three-year-olds and upward, will be run Thursday, Sept. 10. The mobile X-ray unit of the New Jersey State Department of Health will be stationed here Thursday and Friday. The unit will be located in the stable area near the track kitchen Thursday from 9 a. m. to 1 p. m. and the following day will be shifted to the rear of the grandstand for the free X-ray pictures of transients. Jockey Nick Shuk has been engaged to ride Mrs. Samuel M. Pistorios Tuscany in Saturdays 5,000 Boardwalk Handicap. Shuk originally was scheduled to ride Samuel A. Pecks Potpourri in the one mile grass race but was released to handle Tuscany when jockey Jimmy Stout, who was to have the mount on the son of The Rhymer, drew a 10-day suspension.
